Ba-Phalaborwa
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ba-Phalaborwa Parish is situated in the north-eastern part of South Africa, in the Mopani district of Limpopo. Phalaborwa was founded in 1946 by a South African geologist, Dr Hans Merensky who prospected the area looking for economically viable deposits of apatite in the Foskorite rocks found here. The discovery of phosphates led to the formation of the phosphates development corporation (Foskor) in 1951 and the establishment of the town of Phalaborwa in 1957. During those times, copper was also found which led to the formation of the PMC mine. Today Phalaborwa is popularly known as a mining town and miners across the globe come to the town to seek greener pastures.
In March 1963, five local miners who were employed by Foskor, led by Muvuri Langa Ernerst, met to encourage other miners to join as they formed a church at Foskor mine. That first service led to the formation of EPCSA Phalaborwa Parish. Today we have 5 branches, namely, Namkgale, Lulekani, Majeje, Doroba and JCI (JCI is temporarily closed). The parish has an estimate of 350 members.

The parish branches are under the Valoyi and Nyavana Traditional Authorities. Most of the Christians are unemployed and live under the poverty line. Most educated Christians moved to live in townships. The other challenge that the parish is facing is charismatic churches to which our youth are migrating to. Most families are child herded because their parents died of HIV and COVID -19.
The parish has 9 branches namely: Nwamitwa, Madlhakazi, Bethania, Nkambako, Joppie, Betfage, Runnymade, Xirhulurhulu & Radoo.
