Giyani Presbytery

The Giyani presbytery was originally consisting of the following churches: Giyani, Hlaneki, Ngove and Muhunguti which belonged to the Soutpansberg Presbytery for a long time. The Presbytery was demarcation by Synod of 1983 but started its full operation in 1994 as Giyani Presbytery. Giyani Presbytery was a product of the demarcation which was brought about by the ministers of that time to make the administration of the church much easier under the leadership of Rev Elias FC Mashava. The Giyani presbytery’s first chairperson was Rev Ntlaweni NJ Ngwenya.  At present the presbytery consists of the following parishes: Giyani Central, Giyani East, Giyani West, Hlaneki, Ngove and Polokwane.

The presbytery has been led by the following ministers: Rev Ntlaweni NJ Ngwenya in 199.9, Rev Elson P Mashavana 2000 to 2003, Rev Shirilele P H Khosa – 2004 to 2010, Rev MW Khosa – 2016 to 2019 and Rev Risenga A Mathebula – 2020 to2022. It has approximately 1 650 members. It is in Mopani District of Limpopo and dominated by Xitsonga and a few Sepedi speaking people. Giyani Presbytery is well known for its ability to host big church occasions. It recently hosted the 40th Synod at Giyani East on 07 -09 October 2022 with great success. It has a strong team of dedicated ministers of religion who are reaching out all structures of society to make a difference in the life of people.
