Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s Mbombela Parish gives back to Matsafeni community

Written by Monica Mthembu - Mpumalanga news

In an uplifting display of ubuntu, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Africa (EPCSA) Mbombela parish, donated clothing to this community as part of their 150-year anniversary on Saturday, March 29.

The EPCSA, formerly called the Swiss Mission in South Africa, was founded in 1875. The parish had a free clothing market where the people could take whatever items they needed. There were many activities, including that of the Mbombela parish’s 10-year anniversary in Matsafeni. The church celebrated the weekend with two events: a slow drive from Brondal Clinic to Matsafeni, and a walk from the Mbombela Stadium to the church where the clothing donation took place. There was also live gospel music and a kids’ play area.

The presiding minister of the parish, Rt. Rev. Gicks Moyane, said the celebrations was all about adding value to the community. “It was a successful event, because we were not only celebrating the church, but we also wanted to add value to the lives of people who live in the area. This celebration was a build-up to the event by all the parishes in South Africa in September,” Moyane said.
